HONOLULU, HI- A moped rider was struck and injured in Honolulu Sunday evening by a driver who left the scene, according to police.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the accident happened along Waialae Avenue near Palolo Avenue. An investigation found that a 26-year-old man on a moped was coming out of a restaurant driveway shortly after 7 p.m. when he was broadsided by a gray Toyota Corolla. The moped rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
The Toyota driver was reported to have continued west on Waialae Avenue without stopping to help and with the moped wedged under the vehicle. After the moped was dislodged, the driver kept going and is now being sought by police.
Anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.
