HONOLULU, HI – One driver was killed and another injured when their vehicles collided in the Waimanalo area on Saturday night, authorities said.
The Honolulu Police Department released details of the fatal crash, which occurred at the intersection of Hihimanu Street and Kalanianaole Highway at about 8:16 p.m. It was reported to the police department’s Traffic Division that the operator of a utility task vehicle was heading north on Hihimanu Street when he disregarded a posted stop sign at the intersection and collided with another vehicle.
The impact caused the utility task vehicle to roll over, ejecting the operator, a 30-year-old man. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 74-year-old man, was hospitalized in serious condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck. It has not yet been determined whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
