MAKAKILO, HI – A car wreck in Makakilo last week claimed the life of a motorist, according to Hawaii News Now.
The victim was a 24-year-old man who was headed north on Makakilo Drive near Koholale Street at about 9:30 Tuesday night.
According to police, the driver veered to the left of the roadway and jumped the curb. The car then collided with a tree in the center median.
Honolulu firefighters were dispatched to the scene and used hydraulic tools to remove the man from the wreckage, but he died of his injuries. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time.
Honolulu police are investigating the accident and said that speed may have been a contributing factor.
