HILO, HI -A driver was killed in a high-speed car wreck in Hilo early Thursday morning, according to a KITV report.
The victim, identified by police as 20-year-old Jordan Grant, was driving on Pauahi Street near Piopio Street when the crash took place shortly after midnight.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Grant lost control of the car while traveling at a high rate of speed, and the vehicle slid into a metal railing on the Pauahi Street Bridge.
Despite life-saving attempts by first responders, Grant was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved.
The East Hawaiʻi Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident. Speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors.
