HONOLULU, HI – A driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the H-1 Freeway in Honolulu, according to police.
A press release from the Honolulu Police Department said the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Feb. 20 on the westbound freeway
The department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section learned that a 22-year-old man was driving at a high rate of speed when he collided with another vehicle. The 22-year-old’s vehicle overturned and he was ejected. He died after being taken to an area hospital. Police said the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Four people in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries – the driver, a 66-year-old man, and three passengers, a 44-year-old man, a 40-year-old man, and a juvenile male. All refused treatment at the scene.
Investigators said speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the incident, but it was still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
