HILO, HI – A man is facing charges in connection with a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Hilo late Friday night.
According to Hawai‘i Island police, the driver of a 2002 Toyota pickup truck was reversing out of a driveway onto Kalanianaole Street at about 11:39 p.m. when the pickup collided with a 2007 Honda motorcycle traveling west.
The motorcyclist, 26-year-old Jared Tellio-Flournoy of Hilo, was pronounced dead after being taken to Hilo Medical Center. It was not clear whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck, 26-year-old Sterling Stroud from Volcano, was not injured. He was arrested on charges of first-degree negligent homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
