KAPOLEI, HI – The Honolulu Police Department released information regarding a fatal wreck in the Kapolei area late Monday night.
It was reported to the department’s Traffic Division that a 28-year-old man was driving eastbound on Farrington Highway, at a high rate of speed at about 11:55 p.m.
The vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, causing the first driver to lose control and collide with the center concrete barrier. That caused his car to go airborne over the barrier into the westbound lanes of Farrington Highway, where it rolled over multiple times.
The 28-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected onto the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, a 60-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
Investigators said speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash, but had yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
