KANEOHE, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred on New Year’s Eve in Kaneohe, Hawaii News Now reports.
Investigators determined that a driver was going south on Kahekili Highway shortly after 9:30 p.m. when he crossed over into the northbound lanes near Ahuiman Road. The vehicle went down an embankment and then crashed into a tree.
The motorist, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.
Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the wreck but were still trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
