WAIPIO, HI – Police in Honolulu said a driver died following an accident at an area Costco store on Tuesday night.
Hawaii News Now reports that the crash occurred in the rear alleyway of the store on 94-1231 Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipio.
According to investigators, the motorist was going through the alleyway at about 8 p.m. when he suddenly accelerated and crashed into a 40-foot shipping container. The driver, reported to be a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, police said.
Investigators are continuing to look into the incident and said that speed may have been a contributing factor.
