HONOLULU, HI – Police said a two-vehicle collision in the Halawa area Saturday afternoon sent one of the drivers to the hospital.
The wreck occurred at about 2:05 p.m. on the H-3 Freeway inside the Harano Tunnel, according to a release from the Honolulu Police Department.
The Traffic Division determined that a 71-year-old woman was driving westbound on the freeway when her vehicle crashed into the back of a large dump truck going west. The woman was pinned inside her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the dump truck, a 49-year-old man, and his passenger, a 59-year-old woman, were not injured. They remained at the scene.
Investigators do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
