ANAHOLA, HI – A man is facing multiple charges in connection with a pickup truck accident in Kauai on Saturday afternoon, according to KHON.
The incident took place in the area of Hokualele Road and Kuhio Highway in Anahola at about 3 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the pickup was trying to make a right turn from Kuhio Highway onto Hokualele Road when the vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a guardrail.
A passenger in the bed of the truck, a 46-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle. He was flown to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu with serious injuries.
Kauai police said the driver of the pickup, identified as 61-year-old Roland Vierra of Anahola, did not remain at the scene of the crash. He was later arrested on charges that included operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, leaving the scene of a crash involving substantial bodily injury, and reckless driving. Vierra was released pending further investigation.
