HONOLULU, HI – A driver was critically injured in a collision on Pali Highway on Monday night, according to a news release from the Honolulu Police Department.
The single-vehicle crash occurred near Waokanaka Street in the Nuuanu area at about 9:17 p.m. It was reported to the police department’s Traffic Division that a driver was going south on Pali Highway in lane #2 when there was a blowout in the car’s front left tire. The driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a traffic pole, then continued moving forward until it struck a guardrail and came to rest.
The motorist, a 30-year-old man, was rushed to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services. He was reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the wreck but have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
