HONOLULU, HI – A driver died in a single-vehicle wreck in the Haleiwa area last week, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The fatal crash occurred Tuesday, June 17 on Kamehameha Highway near Kawailoa Road. According to the police department’s Traffic Division, a 22-year-old man was driving north at about 6:10 a.m. when he went off the roadway and collided with a tree.
The motorist, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to have been contributing factors in the accident, police said.
It was the 34th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 15 at the same time in 2024.
