MAKIKI, HI – Repairs were underway at an apartment building in Makiki following a vehicle crash on Friday evening, Hawaii News Now reported.
The incident occurred at the Kaahumanu Plaza at Kinau Street and Piikoi Street at about 7:45 p.m. Residents reported seeing a vehicle hit a utility pole before striking the railing of the apartment building and ending up in the entrance to a parking garage.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the vehicle had two occupants. One, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital while the other occupant, a man in his 30s, was treated at the scene and declined further treatment.
The building’s management said the accident caused significant damage to the property, including to a water line. The Board of Water Supply had to temporarily shut off water to the entire building while the repair work was done.
There was no immediate word on what caused the crash.
