HONOLULU, HI – A collision between two vehicles shut down Daniel K. Inouye Highway on Wednesday, reports KITV.
Big Island Police and first responders were called to the scene after a Ford SUV struck a van going in the opposite direction. A witness told police that the driver of the Ford was speeding prior to the crash, and that the vehicle hydroplaned amid wet road conditions.
Five people were in the SUV and one person was in the van, but no one was reported to have been seriously injured.
The highway was closed for about three hours while the crash scene was cleared and investigated. Drivers were diverted through Kaumana Drive.
