EWA BEACH, HI – Honolulu police and paramedics were called to the scene of a fatal collision in Ewa Beach early Saturday morning, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The two-vehicle wreck occurred on Fort Weaver Road in the vicinity of Renton Road at about 5:42 a.m. A police investigation indicated that a driver with two passengers was speeding while headed south and collided with another vehicle, causing the first vehicle to go airborne and overturn. The driver of that car, a 37-year-old man, was ejected onto a grassy median and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The other driver, a 72-year-old man, was hospitalized in critical condition. Two other males, age 18 and a juvenile, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police said speeding appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident. It was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
