NANAKULI, HI – A collision in Nanakuli Monday night sent a moped rider to the hospital with critical injuries, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Police and Emergency Medical Services crews were called to the accident scene on Farrington Highway near Nanaikeola Street at about 10:13 p.m.

The Honolulu Police Department said a man riding a moped eastbound crossed into the westbound lanes and crashed into a vehicle.  The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
