LAIE, HI – A car and a city Transit Bus were involved in a head-on collision Sunday morning in the Laie area, according to a report by Hawaii News Now.
An investigation indicated that the driver of the car was headed north on Kamehameha Highway near Naniloa Loop and crossed over the center line at about 11:35 a.m. The vehicle then collided with the bus.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old man, and his passenger, a 29-year-old man, were both listed in critical condition after being taken to an area hospital.
Three men who were passengers on the bus, ages 91, 54 and 43, were seriously injured. The 62-year-old driver of the bus was not injured.
Kamehameha Highway was shut down for hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated. Police do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the accident. It was not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
