HONOLULU, HI – A collision in Honolulu on Sunday night sent a moped rider to the hospital with critical injuries, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Police and paramedics responded to the area of McCully Street and Fern Street after the crash occurred at about 7:55 p.m.  Honolulu police said a driver was making a left turn onto Fern Street when his vehicle broadsided a moped going in the opposite direction.

The moped rider, age 51, was hospitalized in critical condition.  The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man, and a juvenile passenger were not injured and stayed at the scene.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
