City Bus driver dies of injuries suffered in collision in Kalihi

HONOLULU, HI – A bus driver has died of injuries suffered in a crash in Kalihi on Tuesday morning, according to an update released by the Honolulu Police Department.

An initial investigation determined that the driver of a City Bus was traveling westbound on North Vineyard Boulevard at about 7:10 a.m. when he lost control. The bus traveled into the center median and crashed into a tree, where it came to rest.

The driver, a 59-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Later that day the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the driver had been pronounced dead.

At this time, investigators do not believe that speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal wreck.
