KAUAI, HI – A single-vehicle accident in Kauai on Tuesday afternoon sent a child to the hospital, according to Kauai Now.
Police responded to Kuhio Highway near the Wailua Golf Course after the incident was reported at about 5 p.m. Preliminary details indicate that the driver of a 2025 Toyota SUV was headed north when the vehicle sideswiped a guardrail and hit a utility pole. The impact caused the vehicle to spin and a child inside was ejected.
The child, whose age and gender were not released, was seriously injured and transported to the Kapiʻolani Medical Center on Oahu. No injuries were reported for the other two occupants of the SUV, which police believe was being driven by a 35-year-old Wailua woman.
The Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene to investigate, causing the closure of KĹ«hiĹŤ Highway for about two hours.
Toxicology results were pending as part of the investigation.
