MAILI, HI – A car accident in Maili on Tuesday afternoon left a driver seriously injured and knocked out power to thousands of customers, KITV reported.

Honolulu Emergency Services crews and Honolulu firefighters were dispatched to the scene on Paakea Road after the incident occurred at about 2 p.m.  EMS stated that the driver collided with a power pole, and the vehicle caught fire.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, a woman in her 30s.  She was hospitalized with second and third-degree burns.

As a result of the accident, over 3,000 customers in the Nanakuli area were left without power.  Hawaiian Electric crews arrived to repair the damage and restore power to the area.

No one else was injured in the crash, which blocked Paakea Road from Maiiliili Road to Hakimo Road.
