KALIHI, HI – A collision involving a city bus in Kalihi left a driver critically injured on Tuesday morning, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

Police and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene on North Vineyard Boulevard near Pua Lane at about 7:10 a.m.

The Honolulu Police Department said the bus driver, a 59-year-old man, lost control of TheBus while heading west on North Vineyard Boulevard, then went into the center median and crashed into a tree.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area emergency room and was listed in critical condition.  No one else was on the bus.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
