KALIHI, HI – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Kalihi last week, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The collision occurred Jan. 27 at about 5:20 a.m. on Sand Island Parkway. It was reported to the police department’s traffic investigators that an unidentified motorist was traveling southbound on Sand Island Parkway and struck a 50-year-old male bicyclist.
The motorist kept going southbound on Sand Island Parkway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
The bicycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
Police do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident but have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
