HAWAII COUNTY, HI – An investigation is underway after a bicycle rider was struck and injured in a national park by a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday morning, reports KITV.
The collision took place at the intersection of Highway 11 and the road heading to Nāmakanipaio Campground at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
Authorities said a 70-year-old man from Volcano was struck and severely injured at about 9:20 a.m. by what witnesses described as a gold-colored sedan. The driver left the scene and is now being sought by National Park Service law enforcement.
Police asked witnesses or anyone else with further information on the hit-and-run to contact them.
