HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a crash on Thursday that sent a bicycle rider to the hospital.
Hawaii News reports the bicyclist was hit by a motorcycle at the intersection of South Beretania Street and Fort Street at about 5:15 p.m. The initial investigation indicated that the bicycle rider, a male, was struck while trying to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk.
The motorcycle rider, who was believed to have been speeding at the time of the accident, abandoned the bike and fled the scene on foot. The high speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the incident.
The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital and was listed in serious condition.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division.
