KAHUAI, HI – A collision on Kauai last week sent a bicycle rider to the hospital with critical injuries, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
Paramedics were called to the scene Wednesday night along Kuhio Highway at the intersection with Kawaihau Road. Authorities said the bicyclist was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk at about 6:50 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound 2008 Toyota sedan.
The rider, a 44-year-old man, was taken to Wilcox Medical Center and then to Queens Medical Center, and was listed in critical condition. Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident. Toxicology results are still pending for the driver involved, who was not injured.
The collision closed Kuhio Highway for about 90 minutes while police were investigating.
