KALIHI, HI – An accident in the Kalihi area Tuesday night claimed the life of a 68-year-old bicyclist, reports Hawaii News Now.
Honolulu police said the victim was riding east in the westbound lanes of North Nimitz Highway in Kalihi at about 9:40 p.m. He was struck by a vehicle heading west from the H-1 Freeway off-ramp onto North Nimitz Highway.
The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol on the part of the 20-year-old driver were factors in the collision. There was no immediate word on whether the bicyclist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
