Bicycle rider dies after colliding with vehicle on Kalakaua Avenue

HONOLULU, HI – Police in Honolulu were called to the scene of a fatal collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle last Tuesday, according to KITV.

Investigators said a bicyclist was headed east in the bicycle lane on Kalakaua Avenue and crashed into the opened rear passenger door of a vehicle that had stopped.  The driver of the vehicle, a 65-year-old man, had stopped to let a passenger out.

The bicycle rider, a 66-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead on Friday

Police are trying to determine whether speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash.
