HONOLULU, HI – Police in Honolulu were called to the scene of a fatal collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle last Tuesday, according to KITV.
Investigators said a bicyclist was headed east in the bicycle lane on Kalakaua Avenue and crashed into the opened rear passenger door of a vehicle that had stopped. The driver of the vehicle, a 65-year-old man, had stopped to let a passenger out.
The bicycle rider, a 66-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital, where officials say his condition gradually worsened. He was pronounced dead on Friday, May 17.
Police are trying to determine whether speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash.
