HONOLULU, HI – A juvenile riding an electric bicycle was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle in the Ewa Beach area recently.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the collision took place Feb. 27 at the intersection of Kauwili Street and Laupapa Street at about 4 p.m.

A preliminary investigation determined that the bike rider was heading west on Laupapa Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Kauwili Street, where the bike entered the path of a vehicle.

The bicyclist was struck and ejected onto the roadway, then was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.  The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Two juveniles in the vehicle involved, the driver and passenger, were not injured in the incident.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
