HONOLULU, HI – A man has died of injuries suffered in an electric bicycle accident in Honolulu last month, the Honolulu Police Department said.

The death of the 68-year-old victim was reported Jan. 18 by the Honolulu Medical Examiner.

The accident occurred Dec. 16 at about 3 p.m. on Waialae Avenue near Kapiolani Boulevard in the Kaimuki area.

Police said the 68-year-old man was operating an e-bike as he attempted to cross Waialae Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk, and was struck by a westbound vehicle.  The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man, and his juvenile passenger, were not injured.

Investigators did not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
