WAIKIKI, HI – Police announced an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run collision that occurred in Waikiki on Monday afternoon, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The two-vehicle crash occurred on Paki Avenue near Noela Street at about 1:20 p.m. An investigation by the Honolulu Police Department determined that a 39-year-old woman was driving westbound when her vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 33-year-old woman, was hospitalized in serious condition. Her passenger, a juvenile, was not injured.
According to police, the 39-year-old woman fled on foot after the crash without providing any information or assistance. She was later apprehended and arrested on suspicion of collisions involving substantial bodily injury and driving without a license. The passenger who had been with her, a 39-year-old man, stayed at the scene and refused medical treatment.
Investigators do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck.
