KONA, HI – A car accident in Kona involving an alleged drunk driver left four people hospitalized, including a toddler.
A report by Big Island Now states that two vehicles were involved in the collision Friday night on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway near Kaiminani Drive. Police said the driver of a 2007 Nissan Altima was headed north at about 9 p.m. and crashed into the back of a 2018 Nissan Altima. The driver of the second car had pulled over to assist another motorist who was parked in the median with car trouble.
Four people in the 2018 Altima were taken to Kona Community Hospital, a 32-year-old man, his 26-year-old girlfriend, their 5-year-old daughter and their 3-year-old son, who was then taken to another hospitalized in critical condition. The other three were treated and released.
The driver of the 2007 Altima, a 26-year-old woman from Waimea, was arrested on multiple charges, including negligent injury and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
