Accident shuts down lanes on Route 19 near Lali Street in south Hilo

HILO, HI – The Hawaii Police Department alerted drivers to an accident affecting traffic on Route 19 in south Hilo on Thursday.

The police advisory stated that drivers should avoid Route 19 near Lali Street to Paukaa Drive.  The closure was expected to last for about three hours while authorities responded and cleared the scene.

An update released at 9:35 p.m. said that all lanes had been reopened and normal traffic flow resumed.  There was no immediate word on whether anyone had been injured in the crash.
