HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department was called to the scene of a deadly motorcycle crash on Wednesday night, according to Hawaii News Now.
Police said a 21-year-old man was riding a motorcycle at high speed on the H-1 Freeway near Waipahu when the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. According to investigators, the motorcyclist was weaving through traffic and tried to exit the freeway at the Waipahu off-ramp.
When he tried to re-enter the freeway from the exit lane the man struck a safety barrier. He was ejected from the bike onto the roadway and was struck by a car.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident.
The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
