KAUAI, HI – Kauai police said a bicycle rider was injured in a collision with a vehicle last week, reports Hawaii News Now.
The accident took place Thursday morning on Nalo Road near Ho’one Road in Poipu. Investigators said the bicyclist, a 70-year-old man, was going south on Nalo Road at about 6:35 a.m. The man attempted to turn right onto Ho’one Road, overtook a vehicle near the stop sign, and collided with an eastbound Toyota Tacoma driven by a 24-year-old man.
The bicycle rider was hospitalized in critical condition. Police were trying to determine whether impairment was a contributing factor in the incident, though speed was not believed to have been a factor.
The area near the scene was blocked off to traffic for about two hours for the police investigation.
