HONOLULU, HI – Police and paramedics were called to the scene of a car accident in the Diamond Head area on Sunday morning, according to Hawaii News Now.
Police said a driver lost control of a vehicle on Diamond Head Road shortly before 1 a.m. and crashed into a utility pole.
Five people were in the car, ages 18 to 22, including the 19-year-old driver. All five were seriously injured and transported by Honolulu EMS to an area hospital.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the wreck, and have not disclosed whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors.
Diamond Head Road was closed for hours for the crash response and investigation.
