HONOLULU, HI – A collision involving a city bus in Honolulu on Wednesday morning sent 20 people to the hospital, reports KITV.
The incident happened along the eastbound H-1 freeway near the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport at about 5:30 a.m. Authorities said the bus was heading towards the downtown area when it collided with a pickup truck.
Honolulu police, firefighters and paramedics all responded to the scene. Of the 20 injured victims, 19 were passengers on the bus. The driver of the truck was also injured. 12 of the people were listed in serious condition. Seven ambulances and a mass casualty vehicle were all part of the emergency response to the bus crash.
Traffic was slowed through the area during the morning rush hour with three H-1 eastbound lanes blocked by the airport off-ramp.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
