KEAAU, HI – A rear-end collision in Pahoa on Saturday morning sent both drivers to the hospital, according to police.
Hawaii News Now reports the crash occurred on Kea’au-Pahoa Road and Kaloli Drive at around 7 a.m. Responding officers learned that a 1995 Honda sedan crashed into the back of a 2011 Kia SUV while both were traveling Pahoa bound on Kea‘au-Pahoa Road. The impact caused the Honda to overturn and land on its roof.
The Honda driver, a 29-year old male from Kea‘au, was listed in critical but stable condition at the Queens Medical Center. The Kia driver, a 63-year old woman from Kea‘au, was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center with significant injuries.
Investigators believe speed and impairment were contributing factors in the wreck.
