KAWAA, HI – Police and first responders were called to the scene of a fatal collision in the Kaawa area on Thursday evening.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, an SUV and a motorcycle were involved in the crash on Kamehameha Highway at about 6:45 p.m.
The department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, learned that a driver was trying to turn from Makua Village Road onto Kamehameha Highway and collided with a motorcycle heading south on the highway.
The motorcycle driver, a 22-year-old man, and his passenger, a 21 year-old woman, were both ejected onto the roadway. The woman was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital, while the man was hospitalized in serious condition. They were both wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, and her 33-year-old passenger were not injured and remained at the crash scene.
Investigators do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
