Honolulu is without a doubt the largest city in Hawaii. The population of Honolulu has been steadily increasing for years as people flock to the city to experience the wonderful climate and the economic opportunities that are abundant here. Streets in and near the city are frequently congested, so many people choose walking as a main source of transportation. With vehicles and pedestrians in such close proximity, pedestrian accidents are bound to happen.
A recent accident on the H-1 freeway in Honolulu claimed the life of a pedestrian. According to reports, a woman was attempting to cross the roadway during the morning hours and was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was traveling westbound at the time of the accident, reports say
Tragically, authorities say the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. Police shut down all westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway while they investigated the accident. Police say that, even though the roadway was slick at the time of the accident, they do not believe the condition of the road was a factor. Reportedly, this was the 24th traffic related death on the island of Oahu this year.
As populations boom across the state of Hawaii, accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians will only increase in frequency. Unfortunately, these type of accidents often result in serious injuries or death. Those who have suffered injuries or lost loved ones in pedestrian accidents could benefit by seeking the services of an experienced legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit, based upon proof of a defendant’s negligence in causing or materially contributing to a fatal accident, could result in compensation to help cover medical and end-of-life expenses.
