Hawaii is home to many beautiful, scenic roadways that are perfect for motorcyclists to enjoy. Unfortunately, those who travel by motorcycle are often subjected to different types of risks and dangers than other motorists. Since motorcycles are typically smaller and harder to see than the most vehicles on the road, motorcycle accidents are not uncommon. Since motorcyclists are usually exposed with minimal protection from the elements, accidents involving motorcycles are more likely to result in serious injuries or death.
Recently in Nanakuli, a man was killed in an accident while riding a moped. The accident occurred during the evening hours near Nanaikeola Street. According to reports, the man was heading eastbound and had stopped waiting to turn left when he was struck from the rear by a pickup truck.
Reports say the impact knocked the moped across the center line and into the path of a westbound pickup truck. The moped was broadsided by the oncoming pickup, and the man became temporarily trapped underneath the vehicle. According to police, the man was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, he died later that night.
Although traveling by motorcycle can be a fun and economical means of transportation, Hawaii’s increasingly crowded roadways can be dangerous for motorcyclists. Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents are typically more serious and have a high death rate. Hawaii residents that have suffered the loss of a loved one in this type of accident have options that can ease their pain and suffering. Surviving family members can pursue financial relief by filing a lawsuit in a civil court. A successful lawsuit could result in financial compensation to help with medical bills and end-of-life expenses.
