MOUNTAIN VIEW, HI – Hawai‘i Island police responded to a collision that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Mountain View on Tuesday morning, Big Island Now reports.
The crash happened along South Glenwood Road at about 12:51 a.m. Investigators determined that the operator of a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was heading south and passing multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone. As the motorcyclist headed south in the northbound lane, he approached a blind hill and collided head-on with a northbound 2014 Mazda sedan.
The motorcycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead after being taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center. He was identified as 24-year-old Tyler Napoleon of Hilo.
The Mazda driver, a 43-year-old Volcano man, was not injured. At this point, police believe that speed and reckless driving contributed to the accident, which remains under investigation by the East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit.
