HONOLULU, HI – A high-speed accident in Wahiawa early Sunday morning left a motorcyclist dead, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

The fatal wreck took place at about 3 a.m. on Kamehameha Highway near Kilani Avenue.  The Honolulu Police Department said a man was riding a motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed and entered the southbound lane to overtake a vehicle.  The rider lost control of the bike while attempting to re-enter the northbound lane and collided with a concrete curb.

The motorcyclist, estimated to be in his 40s, was ejected from the bike and died at the scene.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the incident, police said, but it was not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
