HONOLULU, HI – A collision on North King Street in Kalihi Tuesday night claimed the life of a moped rider, according to police.
The crash, reported by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, took place east of Umi Street at about 7:45 p.m. The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division learned that the moped rider lost control while heading east on North King Street and was ejected onto the roadway, where he was struck by a vehicle going west and turning into a driveway.
The rider, a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal accident.
The driver of the vehicle, a 60-year-old man, stayed at the scene and was not injured. Investigators have not yet determined whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
