HONOLULU, HI – A woman was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on North King Street in the Kalihi area early Tuesday morning, the Honolulu Police Department said.
The department’s Traffic Division learned that the 51-year-old woman was driving westbound at about 1:10 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, she traveled off the roadway near Pua Lane. The vehicle collided with a wooden utility pole.
Emergency Medical Services transported the driver to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the fatal crash.
Investigators have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident. It was the 52nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, double the 26 at the same time last year.
