HONOLULU, HI – A driver crashed into a parked Honolulu Police Department vehicle on the Moanalua Freeway on Thursday morning, Hawaii News Now reports.
The incident, which was captured on video, occurred as police officers were clearing a traffic hazard near Fort Shafter. A driver lost control of their car and collided with the back of a marked police cruiser.
The car then struck the highway median and went towards the officers, who managed to run out of the way and avoid getting hit. No one was seriously injured.
Police said crash underscores the importance of drivers slowing down when approaching flashing blue lights.
“This is just one example of our officers putting their lives in harm’s way to ensure public safety,” said the police department.
