NANAKULI, HI – A motorcyclist was injured in a collision in Nanakuli Saturday night involving a suspected drunk driver, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Honolulu police said an 18-year-old driver was heading west on Farrington Highway at about 7:51 p.m. and made an illegal left turn onto Pohakumui Avenue. The motorist collided with a motorcycle going east on Farrington Highway, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the highway.
The 31-year-old motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center and was listed initially in critical condition, then in serious condition. The motorist was not injured and stayed at the scene, and was later arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant after showing signs of impairment.
Investigators believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck.
