KAILUA, HI – A motorcycle crash in Kailua early Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, police said.
A news release from the Honolulu Police Department states that the wreck occurred on Oneawa Street at about 2:08 a.m.
According to the department’s Traffic Division, the motorcyclist was traveling west at a high rate of speed when he drove off the roadway, colliding with a traffic pole and a concrete wall. The rider was ejected onto the shoulder of the road. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital.
The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal accident. Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident but have not yet concluded whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
